Four essential slope climbing tips for mining dump truck vehicles

Do you know the climbing techniques for mining dump truck? Climbing with a vehicle requires skill; if done improperly, it can lead to ‘slipping’ and, in severe cases, cause injuries. Let’s take a look at four climbing tips for mining dump truck:

  • When starting a heavily loaded vehicle, it may experience difficulty (even rolling back), especially for new drivers with less driving experience. In such situations, one should not blindly attempt frequent starts to avoid damaging the transmission system (such as clutch plates). The driver can apply the parking brake, then place larger-sized stones or wedge-shaped wood behind the drive wheels. Slowly release the parking brake after confirming that the vehicle does not move backward, and then proceed to start. This method reduces the difficulty of starting on a steep incline with heavy load and generally allows for a successful start.
  • When driving up a slope, especially a long steep one, the driver must choose an appropriate gear in advance and try to avoid shifting gears midway. New drivers with less experience should, if they need to shift gears, do so on a more open section of the road.
  • When shifting to a higher gear, the vehicle must reach a higher speed. The gear change must be timely and decisive; otherwise, even if you shift to a higher gear, the engine may stall too much due to the load while climbing, causing the speed to fail to increase quickly. Consequently, it may not provide sufficient power, forcing you to downshift. This is a major drawback when heavily loaded and climbing uphill.
  • If the engine lacks sufficient power, downshifting must be done in advance; otherwise, once the engine stalls too much, it may still fail to provide enough power for climbing even after shifting to a lower gear. Gear changes must be accurate and timely. If the gear lever fails to move into the required gear, the driver should prepare to brake to prevent the vehicle from rolling backward due to excessive time consumption during the shift.
